40 Days For Life Starts in a Week!

Go to www.40daysforlife.com/iowa

There is no way abortion or the industry will be defeated without thehelp of God.  If you really want to make a dent in the evil of abortionand help to end it, here is your chance.

40 Days For Life is a simple and well-organized prayer vigil that lastsfor 40 days starting September 23?November 1, 2009.  It takes placeall over the country in hundreds of cities.  Look for one near you at:  www.40daysforlife.com

How the Program Works

If you choose to sign up, you will receive a daily devotional andprayer.  In addition, after you sign up to get updates, we willcontact you by e-mail to ask if you would like the opportunity to pray an houror two during the 40 day prayer vigil campaign.

The objective is to fill all 40 days, 24 hours a day with peoplepraying to end abortion.  Prayer can be done either in front of anabortion building or in your own home.  However, in order to fill eachhour, we ask that you contact us and let us know which hour(s) and day(s) youwill be praying so we can potentially fill every hour with someone.

Why should you get involved?  Why not?  This is the mostpowerful act we can all do to end abortion.  It is God who has the powerto change hearts and draw people to Him.  It is God who will convict thesinner to repent.

24 Hour For Your Church?ChooseA Day

Join the fight against the radical pro-abortion agenda.

The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) represents the  most serious

legislative threat to unborn children ever!

Join the fight against the radical pro-abortion agenda.

The Catholic bishops of the United States have launched a massive postcard/e-mail campaign urging Congress to:

  • maintain widely-supported pro-life laws
  • oppose the federal funding and promotion of abortion.

Why is our pro-life voice needed now?

  • Congress has the most pro-abortion members in 16 years?and abortion advocates are newly energized. Their radical agenda goes beyond Roe v. Wade, and seeks to turn abortion into a fundamental ?right? that the government would have to subsidize with taxpayer monies.
  • If the well-funded abortion lobby succeeds, abortion will become?for the first time in our country?s history?a government entitlement.
  • One such effort was fought back successfully when the bishops mobilized the Catholic faithful in their 1993 postcard campaign against the so-called ?Freedom of Choice Act? (FOCA). Recent sponsors of FOCA plan to introduce a similar bill soon?and President Obama has promised to sign it if it reaches his desk.
  • While FOCA would achieve the abortion promotion agenda all at once, other bills could accomplish the same agenda in a piecemeal fashion. Widely supported pro-life measures in the annual appropriations bills are already at risk.
  • Recent polling shows that Americans strongly support laws limiting or regulating abortion, including laws honoring parental involvement in a minor daughter?s abortion decision, laws upholding the conscience rights of health care professionals, limits on abortion funding, and bans on partial-birth abortion.
  • To guard against the erosion of current pro-life measures?and to keep abortion from becoming a federal entitlement?our voice is needed now more than ever.
  • Add your voice to the millions of citizens urging our government to ?oppose FOCA or any similar measure, and retain laws against federal funding and promotion of abortion.? As pro-life messages start flooding in from their constituents, members of Congress will see that they should avoid dividing our nation with policies that offend the pro-life values of the majority of Americans.

How Can You Help Build a Culture of Life and Love?

Nebraska Catholics for Life

Building a new culture of life and love starts by transforming ourselves and those around us.

Nebraska Catholics for Life (NCL) will help you:

  • Achieve a deeper understanding of God's design for human life and love
  • Speak effectively to family, friends, and neighbors about abortion, euthanasia, assisted-suicide, contraception, in vitro fertilization, cloning, embryo-destructive research and other life issues
  • Understand the origin and roots of abortion, euthanasia, contraception, and other attacks against human life and love
  • Understand the what and why of Catholic teachings on the sacredness of human life and sexuality
  • Implement concrete activities that will help build a culture of life and love
  • Understand and speak effectively about the Church's teachings on related life issues such as the death penalty
  • Understand and fulfill the primary role that families play in building a culture of life and love

What is urgently called for is a . . . united, ethical effort to activate a great campaign in support of life. All together we must build a new culture of life.

This could be the undoing of embryonic stem cell research!

From the "Life Issues Forum" by Mary E. McClusky, Special Projects Coordinator at the Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops:

"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain," mutters the ordinary man posing as the great and powerful Oz in the classic movie "The Wizard of Oz." This scene recently became reality on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" when Oprah's star doctor and regular guest, Dr. Mehmet Oz, appeared alongside actor, Parkinson's disease victim and embryonic stem cell research proponent, Michael J. Fox.

As Dr. Oz explained how Parkinson's disease affects the brain, he broke from Fox's normal talking points by embracing scientific integrity and said: "I think, Oprah, the stem cell debate is dead, and I'll tell you why: The problem with embryonic stem cells is that embryonic stem cells come from embryos, like all of us are made from embryos, and those cells can become any cell in the body, but it's very hard to control them and so they can become cancer." Oz then informed the stunned Fox and Winfrey that with recent advances in adult stem cell research, including the use of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells (embryonic-like stem cells reverted from their adult state) Parkinson's disease may be cured in the next decade.

The above statement came out of our Iowa Catholic Conference web site which is a site that portrays the voice of all 4 Bishops of the Catholic Church in Iowa.

Petition to University of NE Regents

Petition to the University of Nebraska Regents

The Obama administration is lifting the restrictions the Bush administration applied to federal funding of research using stem cells harvested from embryos, which destroys the embryos. The University of Nebraska Board of Regents’ policy has been to follow federal guidelines, sometimes called the “Bush compromise,” which limited federal funding to research with stem cells only from embryos destroyed prior to Aug. 9, 2001.

President Obama is erasing that cutoff date, which will increase demand for present and future destruction of embryos to get “fresh” embryonic stem cells. The University of Nebraska Medical Center has started a drumbeat for expanded embryonic stem cell research in Nebraska. Please tell the regents to hold the line and make the Bush compromise permanent in Nebraska. No research in the NU system with stem cells from embryos destroyed after Aug. 9, 2001.

Sign the petition here.
