Des Moines, Iowa-November 5, 2013-This morning, Judge Karen Romano announced that, at the request of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, she would place a motion for stay pending judicial review on the recent decision by the Iowa Board of Medicine (IBOM) to end dangerous webcam abortions in our state.
You will remember that just this past August, the IBOM voted 8-2 to end webcam abortion in Iowa. They stated, "All Iowans are entitled to the same high level of health care, regardless of whether they live in rural or urban areas," which includes the right to be examined by a doctor prior to an abortion and a right to follow up care.
In this reckless webcam abortion scheme, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland does not provide even this basic care for women.
Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has women talk to a doctor only by webcam and then sends them home for excruciating pain and bleeding-sometimes for up to two weeks or more-and in the end, having to see and deal with the body of their dead baby. (At 9 weeks the baby's heart has been beating since 18 days after conception, is about two inches long and simply needs time to grow. This matters because the woman will be left to deal with her dead baby alone.)
Further, if the abortion is incomplete, women may need a surgical abortion. We know this because Planned Parenthood's website says women must agree to a follow-up surgical abortion if the abortion pill doesn't work.
There is ample medical evidence that these abortions are unsafe. The FDA has documented 2,207 adverse events in the U.S. of women who have had medical abortions, including 14 deaths, 612 hospitalizations, 339 cases where blood loss was so great the woman needed a transfusion, 256 infections and 58 ectopic pregnancies.
Women who died from medical abortions died from a bacterial infection like toxic shock, hemorrhaging to death, ruptured ectopic pregnancy and massive heart attack.
Obviously, as the largest Pro-Life organization in Iowa, it would be correct to say that we believe in the sanctity of life of the unborn, but we are equally concerned for the safety of born women. It is devastating that Judge Romano and the abortion industry in Iowa are ignoring the health and well-being of women to push their own agenda and continue to make this about abortion access, and about politics.
These abortions, where a woman NEVER physically sees a doctor, who goes home to hemorrhage for days and ultimately deliver her dead baby, is not empowering women.
Today's decision by Judge Romano is simply one more difficult, heart-wrenching step in the battle we are ultimately going to win.

Not unlike God's chosen people of Israel, we must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, if we expect God to hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land. The need for repentance has not been greater since the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade in 1973.
The number one cause of death in America is the needless sacrifice of our children at the altar of convenience called abortion. Conservative estimates put the number of deaths at nearly 52 million.
And lest we think this is an issue outside the church walls, 43 percent of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Protestant, and 27 percent identify themselves as Catholic. One in four women has at least one abortion by the age of 45 -- both non-Christian and Christian alike. Where was the voice of Truth -- the church?
Mary Comm of In Our Midst Ministries, Inc. sums up the issue best as she writes, "We (the church) have been an unintentional accomplice to the millions of lives lost and to the multiplied millions of lives devastated by abortion. We didn't want them to abort. We didn't mean for them to abort. But, because of our lack of knowledge, because of our fear, we have
continued to stand by and do nothing. We, God's hands and feet in this dark and hurting world, have been unintentional, unknowledgeable accomplice, but an accomplice nonetheless."
May today mark the beginning of change within the church, as God's people, in unity, seek His forgiveness.
Heavenly Father, we have turned our backs on you and your principles in your Word. We have allowed man to usurp Your role as God over life and the number of our days. But we come to you in brokenness and repentance over our sin.
We cry out for Your mercy and ask you to remove the scourge of abortion from our land.
Use us as your vessels, Lord, to bring the light of Your Truth to our nation once again. Because of Christ we pray, Amen.

Whereas: Because of Roe v. Wade, more than 56 million unborn children have died through abortion; and
Whereas: In Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court declared it could not resolve "the difficult question of when life begins" – and on the basis of this unresolved question, declared a new "right to abortion" based on a "right of privacy"; and
Whereas: The 14th Amendment to the Constitution states: "nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law, nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law"; and
Whereas: In Roe, the Supreme Court admitted: "If . . . personhood [for the unborn] is established, the appellant’s case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed specifically by the [Fourteenth] Amendment..." (Roe v. Wade [410 US 113 at 156-7]); and
Whereas: Science is clear that human life begins at conception when a new human being is formed; and
Whereas: The American people oppose abortion-on-demand and want innocent human life to be protected especially when it is most defenseless; and
Whereas: It belongs to Congress to resolve the question the Supreme Court said IT cannot resolve; and
Whereas: A Life at Conception Act, by declaring that unborn children are persons legally entitled to constitutional protection, will rescue millions of unborn children from dying by abortion-on-demand;

As many of you know already there is a '40 Days for Life' movement going on in Council Bluffs starting next Wednesday the Sept 26th with a Kick-off event on the eve (Tuesday the 25th) at 5:30pm until 7:30pm at Gabriel's Corner.
